I simply copied in the image of the planet that I had made on Illustrator in my DVD label into Photoshop, as Vector Art and placed it on a new layer, and by selecting it was able to move it to where I wanted it to go.
I added effects to the Vector Smart Object by altering its opacity and by giving it an inner glow, allowed the image to appear brighter, but still slightly transparent. I also added the Bevel and Emboss effect, and when ticking contour, was able to make the edge of the image more defined, and appear lighter, and easier to see.
I decided that to allow me to have more techniques within my DVD cover I would use a mask, to hide the part of the planet rings that overlapped the moon, and instead make the planet to appear to be behind the moon and seem as though they were going to collide.
I did this by CTRL clicking on the object that i wanted to use in the mask and in this case it was the moon. When I did this the moon became selected, as shown below.Once the selection has been made I selected the layer I wanted to mask, which was the planet, and added a layer mask, by pressing the add a vector mask button, which appears below the layers and is a square containing a circle.
Once that had been added the moon appeared as a black object linked to the planet, which then acted as a mask.
The finished affect that this then created was that of the planet appearing behind the moon. I felt that this then looked better than the planet appearing in front of the moon, not only did it coincide with the theme of two worlds colliding it also gave the picture again more depth.
