Additions to the DVD background

I began thinking about how else further I could change the background from what I had already done by adjusting the brightness and contrast of the image. I decided that i wanted to change the way that the moon looked, and felt that I could add more meteoroids to the background, that would then make more of an impact to the image and gave a greater sense of diversity to the picture.

To do that I opened up the original background image in a separate Photoshop document that had the original colouring. By using the quick selection tool I was able to select the parts of the meteoroids that I wanted and I could then copy these in to the DVD cover onto a new layer.
Below is an example of how I selected the meteoroids:

I was able to change the size of the quick selection tool to enable me to select smaller parts of the image, and I was able to select less by using the minus quick selection tool, so was able to deselect the parts I didn't want, such as the gaps between the image, such as the sky.
Once added to a new layer and placed on the image I could then re - position and alter the size of the image to make it differ from the meteoroids already in the picture to make appear to have more depth as would appear to be further away.

I also felt that I could add more to change the picture, as did not like the way that the added meteoroids were also in front of the moon and felt that they would look best behind the moon, so to make it look like the moon itself had meteoroids all around it, and so to do this I again use the quick selection tool.
By opening a new document in the same way that I had previously I was able to used the quick selection tool again and select the moon image.

The selection did not select the meteoroids but as I was placing the moon straight on to the other image realised that this did not matter, as instead would show the original meteoroids, but cover the ones that I added in, as the original were of the same size. This in turn would give me the desired effect that I was after.

Below shows the image once I added the selection of the moon onto the DVD cover as a new layer.

Due to the original image being altered when I changed the brightness and contrast the colour of the new meteoroids and moon were that of the original brighter colour, but I rather like the effect that this gave as it made the moon stand out and be more prominent and the meteoroids appear different and worked well as were closer to the green glow, so fitted in well.
