Research for DVD label

I began thinking about my DVD label by researching already made examples to see what style they took on and what ideas I could use in my own DVD label. I thought I'd look at already existing labels that had the same theme and genre of what my DVD label would, so I began looking at the labels of the films that I had researched for my DVD cover, so I could also see how the cover and the label relate to one another.
I also looked at DVD labels generically to see how they fit on the disc.

Star Wars:
The Star Wars DVD cover has similar colouring to that of the disc which helps to draw parallels between the two. The same main character also appears on both. The font of star wars is also the same, which also helps to link the two together. The DVD label is not too crammed, with the character appear to be within the background. The title is also bold and the first thing that is seen.

Avatar:
This label is similar to the DVD cover as has the same colouring of blue, and the same main character. The font also is the same as the font on the front cover of the case. I personally like this DVD label as it shows the main character in the two ways that he is portrayed in the film, I like the mirroring idea, and feel that this is something that I could implement into my DVD label myself if I am able to incorporate it.

War of the Worlds:
This DVD label contains the same front cover image as the DVD cover so immediately shows they are part of the same thing. However this label does not contain the title of the film, which is something that I don't like. I feel that the title should be there so when making mine I will definitely put the title on it. Again the colours are the same and run throughout of orange and black.

The majority of the labels that I looked at contained similar images. Text regarding the DVD licensing and rentals is around the edge in small text, the studio image, and some contain the age. I decided that I would implement these into my DVD label to follow the convention and make it look more realistic.
